Dr. Antal Seres after obtaining his degree from the College of Commerce and Catering, Budapest worked for ten years in the field of cooperative trade. In the meantime he obtained his degree in economics, specialised economics as well as his university doctor's degree in Economics. Since 1983 he has been a research fellow; since 1998 he has been working for the Institute of Economics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His field of research is the commerce (whole-sale and retailing) as well as the connection between the production and trade. In this field he works in basic and applied research and deals with the long-term problems of the Hungarian economy as well as with the potential solutions. He regularly publishes papers in the following fields: restructuaration process of trade and its impacts, the development of trade, logistics, the concentration process and its impact, the role of retail shops, as well as the connection between production and trade, the competition and the adaptability of the SMEs in the production and trade. Since 1998 he has been working in the field of labour research. He was team leader and research fellow in the research of applied science and participated several times as opponent in the preparation of the strategic decision-making of the Ministry of Economics.
