Short Bio

Lilli Berkó is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics Hungarian Academy of Sciences. After her graduation from Budapest (then Karl Marx) University of Economics in 1970 she started to work at the Institutes (then Research Institute of Industrial Economics).
From the 70s until the early 80s she had prepared large number of case studies which had helped to reveal causes of operational dysfunction within Hungarian enterprises and between the enterprises and the central administration such as problems referring to productivity, lack of innovation, external trade/economy.
From the 80s she started to reveal the impacts of the economical system change on industrial corporations. (.Impacts of Soviet Collapse on Hungarian industrial corporations, competitiveness issues etc.) She participated and also coordinated numerous cooperative international research projects. She examined in her MSc thesis how industrial policy can serve industrial development. Earlier she had made primarily empirical researches, later specially from the 90s when she was attending couple of study visits in abroad new industrial theories also became her professional interest. Up to this day she teaches "Theories of Firms and Industrial Strategies" at Budapest Business School.
In the last few years she has also made researches regarding to public utility and industrial relations. She is one of the participants of a recently started research project which aims to analyze the industrial relations of French enterprise units located to other countries. She had been invited as visiting professor in numerous French Universities. She was a co-translator of the French issues of "Economics of Shortage" and "The Socialist System, The Political Economy of Communism" by János Kornai.
